Monday, September 5

Lis, John, Diane and Peter took from Copenhagen with Thai Airways. They had a comfortable flight. I was already in Saigon I had gone out there three days before.

Tuesday, September 6
Again with Thai Airways from Bangkok to Saigon. The plane was a little late. We are now at our hotel TTC Hotel, everybody has got rooms, big rooms. We eat a light lunch in the hotel, later we take taxi to the old presidential palace. It was the presidential palace for 30 / 4-1975, now a museum. It is always interesting to see something that has so much historical significance, especially for my generation. It is a very beautiful presidential palace and has made much of the details. One sees here how much technology has moved on 42 years. The communications network is very old-fashioned. The film hall is viewer 2x1 meters. We got a drink outside. Here played two young girls for us on the old, traditional instruments. There have been hot today, approximately 33 °. Taxi to Ben Tang market, a quick review, on to the students park. Then taxi to the Hotel TTC. Now it was purchased for the train ride. There is not much time tomorrow, where we have a great program. Tonight I had invited Hung, Hop, and Thang Trang and Hops mother of an exquisite fish buffet. Crab, oysters, lobster and much more. Extremely tasty dinner: seafood + otherwise, and fine dessert. We were ten who got this lovely menu. TTC Hotel tomorrow. But as mentioned earlier, we have a great program tomorrow.

A good breakfast at TTC Hotel, all the suitcases into my room. Jump and Thang picked us up, we need to Cu Chi. We started at. 7.00. Weather hot and dry. Cu Chi is a huge tunnel system, ca. 250 km. The construction of the tunnels started while the French were in the country. They were substantially expanded during the American occupation. My friends had not seen Cu Chi before, it was me who had been here many times. Peter was down in one of the small holes, tunnels. All tried the slightly larger holes, our guide had a torch with. We ended with root vegetables and tea. We now had a long drive to Thay Nihn, this is where the Cao Dai religious movement has its headquarters. Cao Dai is an amalgamation of three religions: Hinduism, Budhisme and Christianity. We were so early promotion that we could see the parade. On the way to Thay Ninh rained a little. We immediately went in to get good seats to watch the parade. We were there about 15 min. I knew a good restaurant where we could get lunch, a good lunch. Back to Saigon, unfortunately it rained all the way, and there was heavy traffic. We were back at the hotel at. 15.30. We took turns taking a bath. The dinner had Hung and Hop invited into their home. Hung had spent much time on food, a tasty meal. The taxi to the train station, we had two taxis. Before we had to spend a long time and great powers of persuasion to get taxi drivers to understand that we should NOT be in the airport, but to train. Hung came as a surprise to us in at the railway station because she wanted to make sure that we came with. A touching care that we were happy. We have gotten ourselves decorated and just waiting for the train starts. Tomorrow we are dining in Da Nang.
